How can we recycle expanded polystyrene?

Expanded Polystyrene, also named EPS, is widely used for insulation and protection area, therefore, waste polystyrene is generated in furniture and appliance industry, fish processing industry and construction industry.

In the past, all the waste polystyrene was treated as garbage, and went to landfill, worse thing is EPS contain 98% air, it means waste polystyrene isn’t only hard to be degraded, but also accupy much space if we landfill it.

Fortunately, more and more people and companies notice we need to find a solution to recycle and reuse waste polystyrene, finally they did. Currently, waste polystyrene is able to be reused to make picture frames, hanger and CD cases, it’s not a problem now, it’s a valuable material in the market. A lot of company, especially in China, is offering a good price for recycled polystyrene, and more and more recycling companies and WM companies have added polystyrene into the recyclable list, so you probably will ask how they are dealing with polystyrene scrap after they collect it, EPS is too light to transport.

The answer is EPS densifier, for instance, recycling companies collect loose EPS and put it into a densifier, after that, the polystyrene will be densified into logs or ingots, and then, it can be shipped to the end user to be reused.
